Improve Customer Experience on Shopify with Lob and WebMerge
If you're currently a retailer, selling through Shopify, you know how powerul its application can be. It's a great way to sell products and services online or through a POS in your brick-and-mortar store. Its simple commerce application allows you to easily build a website presence that helps increase sales and expand your brand. And above all, it's simple to manage, saving you time to focus on other areas of your business.
WebMerge follows that same principle - maximum value with minimal effort. And today, we're going to be integrating WebMerge with a Shopify account to help further simplify some tasks for you.
When it comes to running a commerce site, it can be quite difficult to maintain customer loyalty. Constant monitoring and proactive communication is essential to keep your business top of mind for customers. With WebMerge, you can make this process much simpler. For example, you may want to send a customized letter to your customers after a transaction is made. With a simple WebMerge integration, you will be able to automate the process and speed up your customer response time. In order to make this happen, we’ll be using WebMerge, Zapier, and Lob.
First you'll want to upload or create our personalized letter through WebMerge. You should have our merge fields placed throughout the letter where you want it to be customized by your customer’s Shopify information. Below we've opted to simply build a letter in Microsoft Word and upload it to WebMerge. The letter might look something like this:

While you are in WebMerge, you'll also need to set up a delivery option. Make sure to save your document from the documents builder. Click on the "Deliver" tab and specify how you want your document to be delivered once it has been merged. Click "New Delivery".

Click on the Lob print and mail option to have Lob automate your delivery. Fill out the following configuration with your Lob account API Key and add <<other>> merge fields for address information that we will be collecting through Shopify.

Zapier - Step 1
Once you have your letter ready with merge fields scattered throughout and have set your delivery option, you can go to Zapier.com and connect your Shopify account to WebMerg. In Zapier, simply choose to integrate Shopify and WebMerge.

Zapier - Step 2
Within this screen, select the option to send Shopify information to WebMerge every time you input a new customer on Shopify.
Zapier - Step 2 and 3
In steps two and three of the Zapier configuration process, simply authenticate Zapier’s integration with your Shopify and WebMerge accounts.
Zapier - Step 4
In step four of our Zapier configuration, you have the option to set filters on how this Zap is triggered. For instance, you may only want to send this letter to customers who have an orders_count of less than 2. Note that there are many other filters you can set as well. For instance, maybe you want to tailor different documents to different States. You can do that here.

Zapier - Step 5
In step five of the Zapier configuration, match the Shopify information that will be collected at purchase with your WebMerge Document and the merge fields within it. Your merge fields will be populated by the customer's information. In this example below, merge Customer_Name, Customer_ID, Date, Address, City, State, Zip, and Country.

Turn the Zap on and you are all set.

When you input a new customer in our Shopify account a document will automatically be sent to the customer via regular mail as a personalized welcome letter. All this happens automatically with each new customer entry on Shopify!
